چکیده

In this paper, we present a syntactic method for solving firstorder equational constraints over term algebras. The presented method exploits a novel notion of quasi-solved form that we call answer. By allowing a restricted form of universal quantification, answers provide a more compact way to represent solutions than the purely existential solved forms found in the literature. Answers have been carefully designed to make satisfiability test feasible and also to allow for boolean operations, while maintaining expressiveness and user-friendliness. We present detailed algorithms for (1) satisfiability checking and for performing the boolean operations of (2) negation of one answer and (3) conjunction of n answers. Based on these three basic operations, our solver turns any equational constraint into a disjunction of answers. We have implemented a prototype that is available on the web.

Handling Implication and Universal Quantification Constraints in FLUX

FLUX is a CLP-approach for programming agents that reason about actions under incomplete state knowledge. FLUX is based on the solution to the fundamental frame problem in the fluent calculus. The core is a set of Constraint Handling Rules for the constraints that are used to encode state knowledge. In order to allow for efficient constraint solving, the original expressiveness of state represe...

The Potential and Challenges of CAD with Equational Constraints for SC-Square

Cylindrical algebraic decomposition (CAD) is a core algorithm within Symbolic Computation, particularly for quantifier elimination over the reals and polynomial systems solving more generally. It is now finding increased application as a decision procedure for Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) solvers when working with non-linear real arithmetic. We discuss the potentials from increased focu...

Category-based Semantics for Equational and Constraint Logic Programming

This thesis proposes a general framework for equational logic programming, called catf:gory based equational logic by placing the general principles underlying the design of the pro gramming language Eqlog and formulated by Goguen and Meseguer into an abstract form. This framework generalises equational deduction to an arbitrary category satisfy ing certain natural conditions; completeness i...

2QBF: Challenges and Solutions

2QBF is a special form ∀x∃y.φ of the quantified Boolean formula (QBF) restricted to only two quantification layers, where φ is a quantifier-free formula. Despite its restricted form, it provides a framework for a wide range of applications, such as artificial intelligence, graph theory, synthesis, etc. In this work, we overview two main 2QBF challenges in terms of solving and certification. We ...

Continuous First-Order Constraint Satisfactionwith Equality and Disequality Constraints

In an earlier paper we have shown, how one can successfully use constraint satisfaction techniques for proving and solving formulae in the first-order predicate language over the reals (i.e., real first-order constraints). This approach was restricted to inputs that contain inequality symbols such as ≤, but no equality symbols (=) or disequality symbols ( 6=). In this paper we lay the basis for...
